DIY Anxiety Therapy

This Is The Key To Being Panic Attack Free...Anxiety and stress have become more and more commonplace in today’s world, and as we strive to meet the demands of our careers and the responsibilities we have at home, we unconsciously invite even more anxiety into our everyday lives. It’s no wonder, then, that many of us suffer from anxiety-driven disorders that go from sweating and palpitations to anxiety insomnia; and even experience frightening and debilitating anxiety attacks.

Physicians seem keen to prescribe medication for anxiety-related illnesses and the effects of such medication can be more harmful than the condition that they are meant to treat. So, what can we do ourselves in the way of anxiety therapy in order to avoid anxiety-related illnesses and the drugs that are prescribed for them? The following paragraphs provide just a few simple do-it-yourself methods that have been proven to decrease the effects of anxiety and stress.

Aromatherapy has been in use for thousands of years, and there is a reason for that. Soothing scents have a physiological affect on our biological systems. For instant anxiety therapy, try a reed diffuser or even a small bottle of an essential oil that can be carried with you and inhale one of these scents when you start to feel anxious or overly-stressed: chamomile; lavender; nutmeg; orange blossom; patchouli; rose; sandalwood; or vanilla.

Meditating may sound like new-age hooey, but it, too, has been around for thousands of years, and can do wonders for relieving stress and anxiety. When you feel stress building, take ten minutes or so to close your eyes, or focus on something pleasant to look at (many folks have hung a favorite photograph of a nature scene or something similar in their office or cubicle to help with this). Push all thoughts out of your mind while concentrating only on your breathing. Breathe in slowly, trying consciously to fill up your rib cage and belly, instead of your chest. It may be difficult at first to get started, particularly pushing thoughts out of your mind, but the more you practice, the easier this will become and you will develop a form of anxiety therapy that you can do anywhere at any time.

Many people inherently know about the calming effects of music, but what is not so well known are that recent clinical tests have shown that certain frequencies can actually slow one’s heartbeat and reduce stress levels. A simple form of anxiety therapy, then, can be to put your ear buds in or headphones on and listen to music that has been composed of these frequencies. If you prefer classical, jazz, blues, country or even rock and roll, then that’s what you should listen to, as long as it has the effect of calming you down, rather than pumping you up.

Finally, probably the oldest form of anxiety therapy in existence is prayer, which is, in essence, a form of meditation. It doesn’t matter what your faith is, or what deity you pray to, putting the burdens and worries of your life into the hands of a higher power can be an incredible stress-reliever.

Each of these methods can result in a decrease of your overall stress, and when combined into a daily routine or regimen, can lay the foundation for the perfect do-it-yourself anxiety therapy treatment program.
